Gering drops heartbreaker to Kelly Walsh

Gering looked as if they were cruising to a Winter Royalty night basketball win against visiting Casper Kelly Walsh Saturday night, but it wasn't meant to be as Kelly Walsh over came an eight point end of the third quarter deficit to win 49-to-47.

The winning shot for the visitors came on a three-point field goal with 10-seconds to go by Marcus Nolan.

The final minute of the game was a wild one. Kelly Walsh took its first lead of the game with just under a minute to go. Then Bulldog junior Grant Olsson regained the lead for Gering at 45-t0-44 on a shot underneath.

On its next trip down the floor Kelly Walsh regained the lead on a short jumper. But Gering wasn't done. Sophomore Joses Palomo got the lead back for Gering hitting two free throws with 23-seconds left in the contest to put the Dogs up 47-to-46.

Kelly Walsh then turned to Nolan for the game winner. Gering still had a chance at the end, but a deep Palomo jumper was off target.

Gering dropped to 7-6 on the year. Kelly Walsh moved to 6-6. The Bulldogs of Randy Plummer will continue its homestand next weekend, hosting Chadron Friday and Scottsbluff Saturday.
