Eagles fall in four at Wayne

Roybal has big night in loss

WAYNE, Neb. – Chadron State's Mollie Jones and Erika Roybal combined for 25 kills and four others had at least five more as the Eagles gave No. 20-ranked Wayne State all it could handle in their non-conference match Tuesday evening.

The Wildcats prevailed in four sets, 25-18, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20 to improve to 11-3 overall.

Chadron State, which fell to 3-10 for the season after playing its fourth consecutive four-set match, will host its first home matches of this season Friday and Saturday. The Eagles will play Colorado Christian Friday at 7 p.m. and Colorado School of Mines at 5 on Saturday.

Tuesday's four-set thriller featured 16 ties and five lead changes but the Wildcats managed to pull away down the stretch in the first and final sets, thanks in large part to a sideout percentage over 60.

Lauren Sieckmann led Wayne State, which hit .176 in the match, with 13 kills and 11 digs and Cori Hobbs had 12 more.

Jones paced CSC with 12 kills and 17 digs and Roybal chipped in 13 kills.

Jessica Jester with seven kills, Mallory Irvine with six kills and six blocks and Lexi Hoagland with six kills and four blocks also had solid performances for the Eagles.

Justine Ackie ran an efficient offense by handing out 22 set assists and she added 10 digs.

Defensively, Kristina Harter had a match-high 23 digs and Alyssa Bauer added 14 more, including 16 set assists.
