Zephyrs take two from Spearfish

Less than 24-hours after a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the host Rapid City Expos the WESTCO Zephyrs rebounded with a doubleheader sweep at Spearfish.

The Z's got their own 5-4 win in the opener and cruised to a 13-5 win in the nightcap.

In the opener Spearfish jumped on Zephyr starter Joe Sanchez for three first inning runs and one in the second to take a 4-1 lead, but Mark Moran's crew came back after scoring a second inning run with one more in the fourth and a three run sixth to pull out the win.

Sanchez settled down and shutdown Spearfish after the early uprising, going the distance and striking out seven.

Ty Dunkel was the hitting star for the Z's going 3-for-4 with three rbi. Connor Wilburn and Juan Rios each had two hits for WESTCO.

The Zephyrs took control early in the second game exploding for seven first inning runs. They added three more in each of the third and seventh innings to expand their lead to 13-1 before the hosts posted a small rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Eric Moreno worked the first six innings to pick up the win. Ty Wilson led the way at the plate for the Zephyrs with his fifth home run of the year, a three-run shot in the third. He ended the game with six rbi. Meanwhile, Sanchez and Joe Moran each scored three runs

The 26-15 Zephyrs will be back in action at Cleveland Field Friday with a single game at 7:30 against Chappell.
