Twisters are rated number one
The Torrington Twisters won their sixth tournament of the season, and fifth straight, this past weekend and moved up to number one in the nation according to the USSSA. There are 681 teams in USSSA's 16 and under B national power ranking.
The Twisters started off this past Saturday with a win over the Rapid City Rage 12-1. They followed that up with a 9-0 win over the Ft Collins Stars. Shaylee Rickard pitched a perfect game in the second contest. The third pool game Saturday against the Billings Shockers was rained out in the second inning with the Twisters leading 1-0.
The two wins gave the Twisters the top seed in the Gold Bracket Sunday. The first game saw the Twisters win over the Rapid City Sizziles 14-0. Mikayla Butler pitched a near perfect game allowing just one walk.
In the semifinal's the Twisters defeated Rapid City Wild 11 to 1. T The win advanced the Twisters to the championship game against the Colorado Stampede.
The Twisters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They added two more runs in the second frame to extend their lead to 4-0. The Stampede broke through with a run in the sixth. But in the top of the 7th the Twisters responded with one of their own to make it 5-1 and that is how the game ended.
The Twisters are now 51-5, with 26 of the wins by shutout. They also have a 30 game win streak and have won 42 out of their last 43 games.
The Twisters are in Brighton, Colorado this weekend and play their first game at 8 a.m. Saturday. This is the Twisters last regular season tournament.
The Twisters will then go to the Nebraska ASA State Tournament, followed by the Wyoming/Colorado USSSA State Tournament. That will be followed by USSSA World Series in Tulsa, OK and ASA National Tournament in Pekin, IL.
