Vaughn falls short of London
A trip to compete in the 2012 London Summer Olympics will not happen for Gering native Sara (Ensrud) Vaughn. The 2004 Gering High School grad finished 13th in a field of 13 finalists in the 1,500 meter finals in Eugene,OR Sunday.
After the race Vaughn thanked all of her well wishers with a facebook post. She said she did not feel well yesterday but will not give up on her dreams.
Morgan Uceny won the race, followed by Vaughn's Nike teammate Shannon Rowberry. Jenny Simpson earned the third birth for the Olympics.
Vaughn's husband, Brent, also ran in Eugene competing in the 5,000 meters. He finished 13th. The Vaughn's now live and train in Portland. They have two young daughters.
Vaughn was a state record holder while running for the Bulldogs. She attended the University of Virgina, then transferred to Colorado. She is now the athletic director at Life Christian School in Portland.
