Lexington and McCook unbeaten at district softball tournament
After one day of play at the McCook Jaycee Softball Complex the hosts and Lexington are the teams left standing in the winners bracket.
The fifth seeded Minutemaids surprised fourth seeded Cozad in the opening round 14-8, then outdueled top seeded Gering 19-18 in the second round.
They will face McCook Friday morning after the host Bison topped Scottsbluff, 15-5, in a second round game.
The Bearcats fell in their elimination game to Cozad 17-5. That ended the defending district champion's season at 15-18.
Gering regrouped after their loss to Lexington to eliminate Alliance 20-10. Alliance jumped out to a 4-0 lead in that game, and it was tied at 8-8, before Gering exploded.
Catcher Jessica Rogers paced Gering with two doubles in the Alliance game. She also had two doubles and two home runs in the Lexington game.
The 21-6 Bulldogs will be in an elimination game this morning against Cozad. The survivor will play the loser of the Lexington-McCook game, with the winner of that moving to the title round.
