Roncalli hands Gering its first loss

Gering's six-game postseason win streak came to an end Tuesday night at the Class B Senior Legion Baseball State Tournament in Wahoo. Omaha Roncalli cooled of Platte Valley Companies 2-1 as Tyler Alitz out dueled Colin Chatterton.

Alitz surrendered just three hits and worked out of a two-on, no-out situation in the top of the 7th to get the win over Chatterton, who went the distance, giving up just five hits.

In the top of the 7th inning Josh Burgener led off with a single. Seth Holtus followed with a bases on ball, but Gering could not finish off the threat.

Gering had outscored its three previous foes 28-2 at the state tournament, but Alitz limited the hot hitting PVC team to just a fifth inning run.

Gering's run cut into a 2-0 deficit as Roncalli scored single runs off Chatterton in the 2nd and 4th innings.

Roncalli will play Aurora at 5:00 p.m Wednesday with the winner facing Gering for the championship at 8:00 p.m.
