Both Scottsbluff and Gering go 1-2 in Gillette

Both the Scottsbluff Bearcats and Gering High Bulldogs began pool play Friday at the Camel Volleyball Tournament in Gillette and both teams went 1-2.

The three matches for Gering were their first of the season. Craig Schadwinkel's crew opened with a 25-22, 23-25, 25-11 win over Sundance, Wyo. They then dropped a 25-22, 25-10 match to Casper Kelly Walsh, and a 25-14, 12-25, 25-21 game to Billings West.

Kaylee Spreier had a big day for the Bulldogs with 22 kills in the three matches.

Scottsbluff moved its record to 2-0 with an opening matched win against Wheatland, 25-19, 25-22. However the Cats dropped their next two matches, 25-21, 25-16 to Campbell County and 25-21, 25-19 to Rapid City Stevens.

Senior Makayla Castro had another big day for the Bearcats. She had eight kills and scored 11 points against Wheatland. Castro added 11 more kills for the Bearcats in the next two matches.
