CSC to visit New Mexico this weekend

CHADRON – After coming close to notching victories last weekend while playing in western Colorado, the Chadron State College volleyball team is hoping for a better fate this weekend when they visit the Land of Enchantment, New Mexico.

The Eagles will visit Western New Mexico in Silver City on Friday and New Mexico Highlands on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.

Chadron State lost both matches at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction and Fort Lewis College last weekend, but they were edged in five of the six sets, including all three of them at Mesa, by just two points.

CSC coach Janel Baily said the losses were difficult to accept.

"We've just got to keep hustling and working," she said.

The Eagles are 3-14 for the season.

There's some good news for the Eagles.

Senior libero Kristina Harter has been given the clearance to play this weekend after missing both matches last weekend while doctors checked her for heart irregularities.

Baily said Harter is considered one of the best liberos in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. She ranks second in the league in digs per set with 4.57.

So far, the Eagles have played just two of their 17 matches at home, but after this weekend, seven the remaining 10 matches will be at home, beginning Thursday, Oct. 18, when CSU-Pueblo visits.
