CSC set to open cross country season Friday

CHADRON – The Chadron State College cross country team will open its season Friday by entering in a meet hosted by South Dakota Mines in Rapid City. The women's race will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the men's event.

Coach Ryan Baily said CSC will enter nine women and 11 men in the meet. He said the Eagles have been working hard and are looking forward to competing.

"We have more runners and we're in a lot better condition than we were a year ago," Baily said. "I know we've made progress."

About half of those on the rosters competed last year while the remainder are freshmen.

The Chadron State participants will be:

Women--Ashley Appelt, Ainsworth; Nicky Applegarth, Chadron; Terren Hanson and Callie Johnson, Casper, Wyo.; Jayme Nunes, Alliance; Liz Rice, Ravenna; Ashley Riesen, Chadron; Sara Townsend, Douglas, Wyo., and Rebecca Volf, Wood River.

Men-Zach Doffin, Stanton; Nathan Faulkner, Morrill; Doug Harris, Las Vegas, Nev.; Josef Gertner, Fort Morgan, Colo.; Simon Gudeta, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Hank Jackson, Lingle, Wyo.; Alex Johnson, Kearney; Evans Koech, Nairobi, Kenya; Byron McLaughlin, Grants, N.M.; Robert Ricks, Douglas, Wyo.; and Dylan Stansbury, Crawford.

Baily is being assisted in the coaching by Brian Medigovich, a 13-time All-American distance and cross country runner at Adams State College a few years ago.
