Torrington Twisters wn 6th tournament in a row
The top ranked Torrington Twisters stretched their winning streak to 36 games Sunday while winning a tournament in Arvada, Colorado. They won three games to capture the crown, including a 4-1 win in the championship game against Colorado United.
After a bye to open the day Sunday the top seeded Twisters downed the Cheyenne Extreme 10 to 0. Pitcher Shaylee Rickard helped her cause with a solo home run over the center field fence. Jessica Rogers and Marisa Santos both had triples with Cassandra Bustillos added a double.
In the semifinals the Twisters downed Azteca 8-6. The offense was lead by Santos with a solo home run and a triple. Rickard got the win in relief.
The championship game was a rematch with Team United of Colorado. The two teams faced each other in early May with the Twisters winning 9-0. Sunday's contest was a little closer. After a scoreless first inning the Twisters broke through in the second. The Twisters scored on a double steal. The Twisters added another run in the third inning to go up 2-0 after three. United scored one run in the fifth inning, but the Twisters answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. The game ended in the Twisters half of the sixth inning when time ran out.
The tournament win was the sixth in a row for the Twisters. They have won seven tournaments this season. The Twisters are now 57 and 5 with 28 shutouts. The Twisters have scored 581 runs and allowed just 91. The Twisters are number one in Colorado and number one in the nation in USSSA's power rankings, which uses USSSA tournaments only as a basis for the ranking. The Power ranking only counts for the six USSSA tournaments the Twisters have played in. The Twisters are 32 and 3 in USSSA tournaments played in three different states.
The Twisters head to Hastings this Thursday for Nebraska State Tournament action. This will be followed by the Colorado State Tournament in Loveland.
