Scottsbluff and Alliance perfect in quarters
Scottsbluff. The and Alliance had perfect quarterfinal rounds Thursday night at the the Nebraska State Wrestling Championships at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
The Bearcats went five-for-five while Alliance won all four of its matches. The results sent the two teams shooting up the Class B standings. Scottsbluff sits in third place with 45 points, just a point and a half behind Plattsmouth and seven and a half points behind leader Omaha Skutt.
Alliance has 35.5 points, good enough for a fourth place tie with Nebraska City. Chadron is tied for 10th with Cozad. They both have 29 points.
Scottsbluff started its quarterfinal round with a 4-3 win from Juan Delacruz at 106. Keegan Hessler followed at 113 with an 11-2 major decision. At 120 Joseph Flores-Ybarra had a 3-1 win. Two-time defending state champ Colton Adams won his 132-pound with a pin at the 1:03 mark an Andrew Aratani closed out the day with a pin at 285. It came at the 3:07 mark.
Alliance had Devin Ushio, Walker Johnson and Tyson Dowler all win decisions. Dowler is now 27-0 on the season. Dawson Johnson, at 160, closed Alliance's day with a pin at the 4:42 mark.
Chadron has two wrestlers in the semifinals. Colby Riesen won an 11-6 decision at 160. Chance Bila moved to 36- with a 14-4 win at 170.
Gering's lone quarterfinalist, 113-pounder Baily Hort, was pinned at the 5:41 mark. Also in Class B, Sidney's Michael Muggli lost by a pin in :56 at 132.
In Class C Mitchell advanced one wrestler to the semifinals. Brendan Swanson won 10-4 at 170. Swanson's opponent entered the match at 34-1.
Drew Gilliland at 106 and Braydon Wiedeman at 182 fell in the quarterfianls.
Bridgeport advanced Brandon Nichols to the semifinals at 138. He won an 11-8 decision.
Garrett Shadbolt of Gordon/Rushville lost by a pin at 113.
O'Neill is the team leader by two points over Central City after day one. Mitchell is 16th with 17 points.
