Area teams fairing well at district wrestling

Bridgeport's Brandon Nichols is in the Class C4 District semifinals in North Platte

Local and area teams are doing well at district wrestling competitions that started Friday and will conclude today.

The Scottsbluff Bearcats sit in second place at the B4 meet in Cozad. They trail Chadron 47.5-46 entering day two action, but there are seven Bearcats in semifinal action.

Scottsbluff head coach James Miller said that Chadron got most of their points in the opening round, while the Bearcats had only four first round matches.

Robert Price at 113, Salem Harsh at 120, Keegan Hessler at 126, Ben Rodriquez at 132, Colton Adams at 145, Sabian Harsh at 160 and Andrew Aratani at 285 are the Bearcat wrestlers in the semifinals.

Chadron also has seven wrestlers in the semifinals. Gering advanced three in 113-pounder Marcelino Ramos, Baily Hort at 132 and Damian Hort at 138.

The Class C4 District Tournament is at Hershey. Sargent/Burwell leads after the first day with 61 points. Valentine is second with 55 points. The top area team is Gordon-Rushville. The Mustangs are third with 35.5 points. Mitchell is in a tie for sixth, Bayard is ninth, Kimball 12th and Bridgeport 13th.

Gordon-Rushville has five wrestlers in the semifinals today. Bayard qualified Trenton Applegate at 160, Tanner Willey at 195, Tristan Hunter at 220 and Zane Gallegos at 285.

Mitchell sent Drew Gilliland at 113 and Braydon Wiedeman at 170 to the semi's, while Brandon Nichols(145) of Bridgeport and Damian Rutledge(220) of Kimball also qualified.

The D4 District Tournament is being hosted by North Platte St. Pats. The hosts lead the tournament while Hemingford sits in second and Hay Springs is fourth.

The Bobcats have four wrestlers in the semifinals including Cooper Weber at 106, Austin Huddle at 120, Tyler Huddle at 145 and Tarin Jespersen at 152.

Morrill has three wrestlers in the semifinals in Justus Peterson at 106, Garrett Zwiebel at 152 and Matthew Hessler at 285. Minatare's Marc Cinoccco, at 132, is also in the semifinals.
