Gering sweeps McCook

The Gering girls bounced back and the Bulldog boys continued to roll on day two of the East-West shootout Friday.

After a disappointing loss at Lexington Thursday the girls won at McCook Friday, 47-45. The boys meanwhile, dominated their second straight foe whipping the visiting Bison 65-39.

The girls game was close throughout. McCook led by two at the end of the first quarter and at halftime. The game was tied entering the final frame.

Kaylee Spreier and Savannah Walker paced Gering with 17 and 14 points respectively. The win moved the Bulldogs' record to 12-10, while snapping a two game losing streak.

Adam Freeburg's crew will close out their road trip Saturday with a late morning tipoff at North Platte.

The boys will also tangle with North Platte at GHS at 12:30 following its lopsided win against the Bison Friday.

Randy Plummer's crew moved to 16-5 on the year, using a fast start against McCook. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 24-10 leadafter one quarter and never looked back.

The Bison did hold Gering to two second quarter points to pull to withing 26-17 at halftime, but Gering responded with a 16-7 edge in the third quarter to pull away.

Grant Olsson scored 18 and Christian Groskopf added 16 to pace Gering.
