RMAC has new commissioner
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has named Chris Graham of Ripon, Wisconsin, as its new commissioner, just the sixth in the league's 104-year history. He will start December 1.
Graham, executive director of the NCAA Division III Midwest Conference the past 10 years, succeeds Joel Smith, who resigned this summer to become athletic director of Chadron State College.
RMAC Presidents' Council Chairman Dr. Stephen Jordan of Metro State says the presidents feel fortunate to have Graham leading the conference...pointing to his proven NCAA record and a his vision for the RMAC.
Graham says that with the RMAC's rich history and tradition, he sees great potential and success for the league.
He also sees a lot of similarities between Division III...which does not offer athletic scholarships...and Division II, and between the RMAC and the Midwest Conference...which has 20 sports.
The RMAC currently has 14 full members with about a half-dozen affiliate members in various sports. Graham says it may grow in the future, but he's not coming in with any specific plans in that area.
Graham was an all-Midwest Conference baseball and football player at Ripon College, and served as its Sports Information Director and assistant baseball coach from 1995 until he joined the league office in 2000 as Assistant Commissioner and Sports Information Director.
After moving up to executive director a decade ago, Graham has worked to elevate membership standards, student-athlete safety measures, awards and recognition, diversity, and student-athlete well-being.
The MWC became the first league in Division III to establish a conference-wide webcasting agreement providing live video of league contests, and he hopes to lead the RMAC in expanding in that area.
The RMAC is the most historic collegiate conference in the western U-S...founded in 1909 and with members in Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico and South Dakota.
