Kearney edges Scottsbluff for GNAC title

Scottsbluff hosted the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Cross County Meet at the Scotts Bluff Country Club Saturday and finished second in the boys division of the eight team event.

The two-time defending Class B state champions placed three runners in the top ten and seven in the top twenty to finished 10-points behind Class A Kearney, who had five top ten runners.

Wyatt McGuire of North Platte was the meet medalist. Matthew Barraza of Scottsbluff was second. Also for the Cats Anthony Parra was fifth and Brendan Taedter was ninth.

Scottsbluff also place Ben Willis-Teff 11th, Taylor James 13th, Nathan Pritchard 13th and Shane Burkey 20th.

Kearney placed runners third, fourth, sixth, seventh and tenth to edge Scottsbluff 30-to-40.

It was basically a two team race in snowy cold conditions. Norfolk was third with 92. Lexington, North Platte, Hastings, McCook and Columbus rounded out the field.

Kearney won the girls division as well. Megan Sughroue of the Bearcats was the meet medalist. Taylor Muncie of Scottsbluff finished sixth.

District competition for the Cats is this Thursday in Ogallala.
