Rain hinders state golf

Scottsbluff's Kim Moore had a first round 91

Class A and Class C Girls State Golf Tournament action Monday was cancelled, meaning just a one day tournament for those teams and individuals.

Class A action was scheduled for the Norfolk Country Club. Class C play was set for Quail Run Golf Course in nearby Columbus. More rain is scheduled for Tuesday in Norfolk. Columbus has a forecast of partly cloudy skies.

Class B teams did get day one in at the Holmes Golf Course in Lincoln. Beatrice placed three golfers in the top ten and lead the team chase with a 354, five strokes better than Elkhorn South. The Scottsbluff Bearcats sit in third with a 367. District foe McCook is another stroke back in fourth. Sidney shot a 386 and sits in sixth place in the 12 team standings.

Individually, Gering's Sam Rahmig fired an 87 good for a ninth place tie. Lauren Pelster of Omaha Duchessne is the leader after round one with an 80. That is one stroke better than Megan Vetrovsky of McCook.

Scottsbluff did not have a top ten golfer, but three finished in the top 20, led by junior Jordan York. She sits in 12th with an 89. Jalee Pilkington and Kim Moore are tied for 14th with 91's. Megan Pilkington and Hannah Holloway are tied for 21st with 96's.

Sidney was led by Rachel Petik with an 11th place 88. Jessica Campbell had a 98, Karson Langley and Katelin Cole both had 100's and Theda Parker finished day one with a 115.
