Scottsbluff sweeps Gering in volleyball

Seven sets of volleyball were played at Gering High School Thursday night and the visiting Scottsbluff Bearcats won all of them in sweeping three matches from the host Bulldogs.

The freshmen and junior varsity won two set matches and the varsity capped the evening with a 25-`9, 25-22, 25-21 win. It was the second win of the year in four tries for Megan Burda's crew against Gering. The Cats moved their record to 8-16, while Gering dropped to 6-21.

"We played pretty well tonight," Burda said afterwards. "The younger gals set the tone and the varsity came out and
followed suit.

"We played outstanding defense," Burda added. "And we were aggressive at the net and with our serves."

Burda mentioned Brayden Auer and Makayla Castro had outstanding games. Castro was named the KNEB Taco John's Player-of-the-Game.

"Brayden had some big hits for us," Burda said. "And Makayla is seeing her first varsity action this season and she has come on as the season has progressed and proved she belongs here."

The Bearcats come right back with home triangular action Saturday against Sidney and Ogallala.

Gering will be back in action Tuesday at home against the Red Raiders. They will host Bridgeport Thursday in their final home game of the season.

Kelsea Prieels was named the Gering Taco John's Player-of-the-Game.
