Soroptimist International of Scotts Bluff County presented $12,000 to local organizations that have a goal of improving the lives of women and girls at the Annual Service Award luncheon at the Scott Bluff Country Club on Thursday, May 17th. Funds were raised by several fund-raising events including, “Dancing with the Stars,” last January.
This year’s awardees are: Area Health Education Centers, Buckboard Riding Academy, Camp Scott, CapStone, CAPWN Transportation, DOVES, Friends of the Midwest Theatre, Girls on the Run, Los Guadalupanos Dancers, Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, WNCC GED Program, Life Link/ESU 13 and the Scotts Bluff County Volunteer Center.
In addition, the first, “Dream It, Be It” Scholarship was presented to Kirsten Cowan of Scottsbluff, the scholarship was presented in memory of Lily Martin who had passed away last August and was a student at Morrill High School. The meeting also included a celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the local club which was chartered on May 3rd, 1958.
Soroptimist International is a service organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls by awareness, advocacy and action. Members are actively engaged in professional or managment positions in the panhandle community. Local club meetings are held in the Scotts Bluff Country Club at noon on the first and third Thursdays of every month.
