A woman was injured in an early morning house fire in Scottsbluff at 2608 4th Avenue.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:14 a.m. to find heavy smoke and flames at the bottom of the stairs into the basement. Fire Chief Tom Schingle says crews were able to put out the fire fairly quickly, however there was moderate fire and smoke damage, especially in the room of origin.
Schingle says the woman was taken to Regional West Medical Center for her injuries, but she was then flown to Greeley for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Officials say 26 cats perished in the fire, but two survived and were taken to a local veterinary clinic.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and a damage estimate has yet to be determined.
Firefighter Ministry responded to the scene to offer immediate food and clothing assistance to the injured woman’s husband.
