Gering Council Rejects Initial County Offer on Past Allo Franchise Fees

April 1st, 2020 | Scott Miller

The City of Gering has rejected a settlement offer from Scotts Bluff County over ALLO Communications franchise fees paid in error to the county instead of the city.

On a unanimous 7 – 0 vote Tuesday, the Gering City Council decided to join the City of Scottsbluff in rebuffing the Countys offer.

Gering City attorney Jim Ellison tell KNEB News the parties are really just in the initial phases of the process. “There was just one offer that has been made, that offer has now been rejected, so it will be back in Scotts Bluff Countys court to determine how they want to go from there and respond,” says Ellison. “Well continue to talk through the attorneys to try to negotiate as best we can for the good of the whole community.”

From 2011 thru 2018, about $413,000 in fees were sent to the county that should have been paid to the cities of Scottsbluff, Gering and Terrytown.

More than $318,000 should have been sent to Scottsbluff, over $95,000 to Gering and Terrytown was due $67.
