Scotts Bluff County Public Defender Resigns

April 7th, 2020 | Dave Strang

Scotts Bluff County Commissioners Monday evening accepted the immediate resignation of recently appointed Public Defender Harry Moore.

The announcement came following a closed session to discuss the terms of Moores separation.

The board then appointed Deputy Public Defender Paul Payne to serve as interim Public Defender.

County Board Chair Ken Meyer told KNEB News they received Moores resignation on Monday and said Moore really offered no explanation for his departure.

Meyer said the will decide on moving forward with the process to replace Moore, but noted that Paul Payne had been in the Public Defenders office for quite awhile, and should do a good job of handling the office until a permanent replacement can be named.

Moore was appointed to the position following the retirement of long-time Public Defender Bernie Straetker.
