The recent past has not been kind to Gering High School football. The program has just two wins since September of 2013.
The Josh Hiatt era a year ago started with a 0-9 season but that doesn’t mean there isn’t optimism surrounding the program right now.
I stopped at camp on Tuesday night and the team, to a man, looked stronger, and Hiatt is expected around 60+ kids in the program this year in the 9th-12th grades.
Earlier in the summer in getting ready for the KNEB Football Book I spoke with Hiatt about his team and was curious who some of the summer standouts were in terms of the weight room and who was stepping into those leadership roles.
One big change Hiatt made coming into his second year in charge was the approach to the summer in terms of scheduling. Gering held their summer team camp just a couple of weeks ago. That led into conditioning last week and now the start of fall camp. Has that streamlined approach led to a better start to fall camp?
While Hiatt feels more comfortable as he heads into his second year as a head coach there is plenty of change. On the coaching staff. It’s an entirely new staff that’s on board for Hiatt this season.
KNEB Sports will have more on the Gering football team coming up on Monday’s edition of KNEB.tv as we hear more from Coach Hiatt.
